"Heatwave Shelter"
Project type
Architectural Model

November 2020

For my Year 13 Product Design A-level final project, I developed a heatwave shelter designed to provide relief from extreme heat. The structure is engineered to facilitate airflow while offering a shaded area for rest and protection from the sun. This project was inspired by a particularly sweltering walk I experienced in Spain, highlighting the necessity for effective cooling solutions in hot conditions.
The shelter’s innovative design allows it to be flat-packed for ease of transport and assembly, making it a practical solution for preventing dehydration and fatigue during outdoor activities. The roof of the shelter is crafted from flexi-ply, which is shaped using a mould and adhesive. This technique not only enhances the shelter's aesthetic appeal but also ensures its practical functionality, combining both form and utility in the design.
